Tal y como habían avanzado, The Killers están de vuelto un nuevo single titulado Land of the Free y que es todo un himno en contra de las políticas migratorias del presidente de Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, quien como sabemos pretende construir un gran muro para separar a su país de México.
Con un sonido de rock góspel bastante cercano a Bruce Springsteen -una de las muchas influencias del grupo-, el tema cuenta con un videoclip dirigido por Spike Lee y filmado en torno a la frontera de Estados Unidos con México, retratando allí a los numerosos inmigrantes que sueñan con entrar al 'país de las oportunidades'.
En la letra de la canción, canta también Brandon Flowers que "tenemos un problema con las armas", y denuncia que en Estados Unidos hay más personas encarceladas que en el resto del mundo. De hecho, el vocalista explica que la idea de esta letra surgió a partir del tiroteo en 2012 de la escuela Sandy Hook, algo que le conmovió especialmente como padre.
Además, el músico ha publicado también unas líneas en la cuenta de The Killers en Twitter al respecto, con reflexiones como esta: "Deshonramos nuestros valores, nuestros antepasados y nuestra herencia cuando echamos gas a nuestros hermanos y hermanas que buscan asilo. Veo a mi familia en las caras de estas personas vulnerables".
